Dr. Emily Mee studies public management issues in higher education and is currently conducting research on the effects of administrative burdens on citizens, including the psychological, compliance, and learning costs associated with applying for public aid. She received a 2025 grant from the Rapoport Family Foundation to conduct survey research on students’ perceptions and experiences with public aid sources. In 2026, she was awarded the prestigious Paul Volcker Junior Scholar Research Grant from the American Political Science Association, which will support her research on the relative weights of different costs and conditions in the experiences of college students applying for scholarship aid. Through this research, she seeks to offer insights to improve citizen-state interactions and increase assistance uptake among eligible populations in need.
